These courts have exclusive jurisdiction over both contested and uncontested estate matters in Tarrant County. Because of the size of the dockets, contested matters are often heard by an associate judge.
Appeals from the Tarrant County Probate Courts are heard by the Fort Worth Court of Appeals. The Tarrant County Courthouse is a shining star of downtown Fort Worth. Fashioned of pink Texas granite, it was built in 1895 but has been recently renovated.
Tarrant is the third-most populous county in Texas, with a population of over two million. The largest cities in the county are Fort Worth, Arlington, Grand Prairie, and North Richland Hills. The largest employers are American Airlines, Lockheed Martin, FW ISD, and Texas Health Resources.
The Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and the TCU Horned Frogs are the major sports attractions. Major universities include TCU, UT-Arlington, Texas Wesleyan, and Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary. Tarrant County College is one of the largest community colleges in the country.
